Full-length 16S rRNA identification from pure cultures.

Description

Bacterial species identification via near-full-length 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequencing (~1500 bp using 27F/1492R primers). The 16S gene has been the standard bacterial barcode since Woese used it to discover the Archaea in 1977.

IMPORTANT: This kit is for pure cultures only. Mixed cultures will produce double peaks in the chromatogram and uninterpretable sequences. Streak your isolate to single colonies and confirm purity before sampling.

Your kit includes: a sterile swab for sampling from agar plates, a TE buffer tube for liquid cultures, instructions for both solid and liquid culture sampling.

Results are searched against the Ribosomal Database Project (RDP, rdp.cme.msu.edu), SILVA (silva.de) — the most comprehensive rRNA database — and NCBI GenBank.

Works for: environmental isolates, fermentation cultures, kombucha SCOBYs, sourdough starters, bioremediation organisms. See the List of Prokaryotic Names with Standing in Nomenclature (lpsn.dsmz.de) for current bacterial taxonomy.
